Humor Me

Down here at the branch I get maybe 10-to-20 calls a day from colleagues around New York you are having problems with their customer's accounts. Trades don't get paid for, money doesn't get moved, whatever...

There is exactly one piece of information that I need to help them with every single problem: the account number. Without that I can do nothing for them.

Sometimes I'll get one of these douche bags on the phone and they'll start talking, "Hi, look I got a problem with one of my clients, let me explain what happened..." and in my head I'll be thinking "Account number? Account number? Account number?" because the longer they talk, the more they're gonna have to repeat when they finally tell me what it is.

I've tried making a game of it, "How long will they babble?," but I'll tell you, that game is no good for morale.

For a while I would wait for them to take a breath and I'd say, "I'm sorry to interrupt, but why don't we start with the account number?"
Now, I don't even wait anymore, the minute they open with something other than the account number, which is about 90% of the time, I just talk right over them, "Account number?"

I am drowning in assclowns.

Why don't you just make it part of your greeting?

"First Assclown National Bank, Assclown speaking. May I have your account number?"

Problem solved. No need to thank me.
